Team 116 was very gracious in inviting us down to the IIT campus for their game kickoff party. They made us feel like we were part of their family.
The party started with learning everyone's name. Introductions are always hard with a group, so it was turned into a game. It is amazing how you can hear someone's name a dozen times and then have trouble pronouncing it when it is your turn. Everyone took turns and sharing in the laughter.
We did some team building exercises while we waited for the FTC game announcement. As the time neared, there was a scramble to sort through the available computers, tablets and projectors for the right combination of cables and connectors to project the video. It was all good in the end.
After watching the game video a few times, the teams moved to a classroom to discuss strategy and to review the rules. Time really flew by, and in a blink, it was time to head home. Everyone on the team really enjoyed the shared experience and the opportunity for making new friends.
Our FIRST family is growing. Although we competed in 4H last year, we learned about FIRST through Bruce and his Team 116, having met them for the first time at the Silicon Prairie Invitational at Deerfield High School in June. This led to the FIRST registration by our team. As part of our Team's outreach, we were able to help the Lyons Township High School's Tech Club make the decision to form their own team, so we were really excited to have Sebastian from the LT Lions Team 7534 join us for the kick off party.
What a great day!
Lets see if I remember everyone's names... In no particular order:
Ayanna, Lucas, Deanna, Noah, Sebastian, Trinity, Sarah, Antowane, Miles, Nate, William, Linda, Jonah, Bruce, Cameron, Denisse, Jennifer, Jim
