We volunteered at the Gary qualifier on Sunday. It was a completely different experience being on the other side of the tournament. Without the pressure of competition, you have more time to see all the teams at get to know people. It was a lot of fun.
It is hard to appreciate the amount of work and organization that goes into putting on one of these tournaments. Keith and Lori Hall deserve a pat on the back. Sravan Suryadevara organized and trained the judging team. He did a great job and made judging the event a lot of fun.
Although this tournament is in Indiana, teams came from Wisconsin, Missouri, and Illinois. The competition was fierce. Most of the out of State Teams had already competed at home, so they came into the tournament with experience and improvements on their robots. Winners of this tournament advance to the Indiana State Tournament in Indianapolis.
Here's some pictures of various robots and teams that we met during the day.
